After nearly half a month of industry discussion, from the initial "sneak away" product specification book to the pre release synchronized with the annual report, and then to days of active preheating, the highly anticipated Longi Green Energy BC component new product has finally been officially launched.

On May 7th, local time in Spain, Longi held a press conference in Madrid and launched a new generation of ultra-high value component product Hi-MO 9, with a maximum power of 660W and a conversion efficiency of 24.43%. As Longi's annual heavyweight new product, Hi-MO 9 is expected to achieve mass production in the fourth quarter of this year.

Recently, Zhong Baoshen, Chairman of Longji Green Energy, gave an interview, not only decrypting this new product based on crystalline silicon technology and the highest level, but also responding to Longji's strategic thinking on the BC route.


Ultimate Hi MO 9

The debut of Longi Hi-MO 9 has attracted industry attention, and the first question raised by the industry is: why did it jump directly from 7 to 9? Since ancient times, China has always regarded nine as the highest priority, and 9 is the ultimate. The Hi-MO 9 component is based on efficient HPBC 2.0 battery technology, with a conversion efficiency of up to 24.43% and a battery efficiency of over 26.5%. Currently, the theoretical efficiency of crystalline silicon solar cells is 29%, while HPBC 2.0 batteries have exceeded 91% of the theoretical efficiency. Zhong Baoshen bluntly stated, "Hi-MO 9 is Longi's highest level product based on crystalline silicon technology, and the probability of producing another generation of components with significantly improved efficiency in the future is already very low." According to Longi's official data, the double-sided rate of Hi-MO 9 components is 70% ± 5. If the efficiency of the back is converted to the front, it is equivalent to Hi-MO 9 and TOPCon products on the market (with a double-sided rate of 80% ± 5), based on a standard component, with a difference of 5 watts. But currently, Hi-MO 9 is 30 watts higher than TOPCon. For a standard component, converting all the power on the front and back into one comprehensive power, Hi-MO 9 will be 25 watts higher than TOPCon products on the market. Not only does it rank first in the overall power market, but its overall efficiency is also much higher than other TOPCon products currently on the market.

The HPBC 2.0 technology carried by Hi-MO 9 is based on the BC technology platform, using Longi's own high-quality Terui silicon wafers, combined with Longi's innovative composite passivation technology, to significantly optimize and upgrade the battery's light absorption, photoelectric conversion, and current transmission capabilities. The Tairui silicon wafer is regarded as an important milestone achievement of Longi in the field of silicon wafers, which not only improves the mechanical strength by 16% compared to ordinary silicon wafers, but also solves the consistency problem of electrical resistivity that has always been unsolvable from monocrystalline silicon. Terrain silicon wafers stacked with HPBC2.0 have directly increased their anti cracking ability by 80%. In the early days, silicon wafers were thicker and the impact of hidden cracks was not prominent. Nowadays, as silicon wafers become thinner and thinner, there is greater volatility in long-term outdoor working environments. The hidden crack crisis of silicon wafers has intensified, which may cause direct power generation losses and lead to a decline in power generation performance. The significant improvement in the anti cracking performance of Hi-MO 9 components also means that its long-term reliability is guaranteed, and the long-term power generation attenuation is to some extent controlled. Zhong Baoshen also revealed in the conversation that in the future, all products of Longji will gradually adopt Terui silicon wafers. Based on the wide adaptability of Terui silicon wafers, HPBC first generation products and TOPCon's products will gradually adopt Terui silicon wafers.

The continuous improvement of product advantages is not only due to the advantages of BC technology as a platform technology itself, but also thanks to Longi's high-intensity research and development investment. It is said that Longji "sharpens a sword in seven years", and over 1000 people have participated in research and development over the past seven years, investing over one billion yuan in research and development costs, and obtaining more than 120 patents. This undoubtedly provides strong support for the continuous updating of the BC route. As Zhong Baoshen said, "BC technology is the end point of crystalline silicon batteries, and all technologies will eventually move towards BC technology. Although BC technology has multiple process steps and high processing accuracy requirements, once implemented, it will have huge market potential." Whether it is the initial choice of single crystal route, or the commitment to promoting double-sided power generation technology and innovating HPBC products by the end of 2022, Longi's every decision is not deliberately independent, but "adhering to the 'first principles' and doing difficult and correct things.".

However, some media still believe that on the one hand, Longi is officially promoting BC technology as its mainstream technology, and on the other hand, it is constantly breaking the world record for HJT conversion efficiency, walking the path of "HPBC bright line, HJT dark line".
